Temporarily leaving Japan

Please submit a Temporary Leave Notification for Traveling Abroad to the university.

◇If leaving Japan for less than one year: Deemed Re-entry Permit

If you are leaving Japan for less than one year, please complete the deemed re-entry procedures at the airport. Be sure to check "I am leaving Japan temporarily and will return" on your ED (Embarkation/Disembarkation) card, and present it together with your residence card.

Please note that if you leave Japan with a deemed re-entry permit, you must re-enter Japan within one year of your departure (or until the expiration date of your period of stay, if this period is less than one year) or you will lose your status of residence. You cannot extend your period of stay while overseas.

◇If leaving Japan for more than a year: Re-entry Permit

If leaving Japan for over a year, you must obtain a re-entry permit from the Regional Immigration Bureau before leaving Japan. Its period of validity will be determined within the scope of the current period of stay.
