Taking a leave of absence or withdrawing from the University

Students who take a leave of absence or withdraw from a school are not allowed to stay in Japan under the status of residence of "Student." Please leave Japan immediately or change your status of residence to an appropriate one. When leaving Japan, please return your residence card at the airport.

Resuming your studies at the University

If you leave Japan due to a leave of absence, you must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and a student visa again before you can return to Japan with a "Student" status of residence. It takes about three months at the shortest to obtain a visa after applying for a COE, so please complete the COE application procedures as soon as you know when you are resuming your studies at the university. Non-regular students (Non-degree students and special audit students)

Non-degree students and special audit students staying in Japan with a "Student" status of residence must take a total of at least 12 periods of classes per week (To qualify for "Student" status, students must take a minimum of 10 hours of actual class hours per week).
