Tenure-Track Period
Three-year tenure-track appointment followed by evaluation and tenure until the mandatory retirement age of 65 if qualified.

Qualifications
- Doctorate in hand (or proof of imminent completion)
- Native or near-native speaker of English
- Experience in teaching EFL; experience specifically in EFL for computer science, engineering, or science students is not necessary but will be viewed favorably
- Primary consideration will be the selection of a candidate with strength in English language teaching; knowledge/experience in the use of CALL and/or AI tools for language teaching/learning will be viewed favorably
- Scholarly publications and professional experience
- International experience (preferable for candidate to have lived, studied, or worked outside their native country; experience in Japan will be viewed favorably)
Duties
All CLR professors teach an average of four class periods ("koma") per week, with each class period lasting 100 minutes. Core EFL courses are already prepared, but elective courses are designed by each professor. Note that all students major in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). All CLR professors serve on committees, conduct and publish research, and assist with entrance-exam related tasks.
Hours
7 hours 45 min/day, 38 hours 45 min/week. (*The UoA uses a discretionary working hour system for faculty members. As discretionary workers, faculty are in principle given discretion over the start and end of their workday, the content of their teaching and research duties, the methods for carrying out those duties, and the allocation of time related to such duties.)
Salary and Rank
Commensurate with qualifications/experience by University of Aizu regulations.
Annual salary (*1, *2, *3) by rank:
- Full Professor(教授): approx. 6,500,000 - 9,300,000 yen
- Senior Associate Professor(上級准教授): approx. 6,100,000 - 8,000,000 yen
- Associate Professor(准教授): approx. 5,700,000 - 7,600,000 yen
- Assistant Professor(助教): approx. 4,800,000 - 6,800,000 yen
(*1) The above is the total amount of base salary and bonus.
(*2) Other allowances are paid in addition to the base salary.
(*3) Social security premiums, taxes, etc. will be deducted from the salary.
Holidays
Weekends, national holidays, and year-end and New Year holidays (Dec. 29-Jan. 3); 20 paid holidays per year

The application deadline is 1:00 p.m. (JST), October 9, 2026. Review of applications will begin right away after that and continue until the position is filled. Successful applicants based on a document review will then be invited to an online interview via Zoom in October. Those applicants passing the Zoom interview will then be invited to the campus for a face-to-face presentation, model lesson, and interview, probably in November. Please note that any travel expenses for the face-to-face interview are the responsibility of the applicant.
