SATO Reon
Pre-doctoral Program 2 years / Aizu High School (Fukushima Prefecture)
When I first enrolled in the program, I had little knowledge about computers, but I enjoyed the idea of connecting various things together and gradually became interested in building my own system. Under the guidance of Prof. Hiroshi Saito, I am working hard every day to develop an AI-based wildlife detection system using a palm-sized computer and low energy consumption. I chose this research not only because I want to build a system, but also because I want to give back what I have learned as much as possible to my hometown, Aizu. Next year I will start working for a company that develops systems, and I would like to make use of what I have learned at the University of Aizu for the benefit of people and a sustainable society.

MURAKAMI Hiromu
4th year undergraduate / Okazaki Josai High School (Aichi Prefecture)
I am currently working on visualizing the relationship between references to "COVID-19 vaccine information on social networking services" for my graduation thesis. Some emotion, such as a rebuttal, must be triggering the action. Therefore, by successfully visualizing information references, we can ask, "What belief groups are out there?" and "Which groups are you opposing?" We believe that it may be possible to capture the Ultimately, we hope to capture the whole picture of opinions about the COVID-19 vaccine on social networking sites.

TAKEUCHI Makoto
Pre-doctoral Program 1 year / Yonezawa Kojokan High School (Yamagata Prefecture)
At the time of my enrollment, I had only a vague yearning for computers, but gradually I learned about the depth and breadth of computer science and began to think about what I could do with my knowledge and skills. I entered graduate school to acquire more in-depth knowledge and skills to give shape to these ideas. In my laboratory, I work with companies to develop applications to meet customer needs. It is hard work to create something that satisfies customers, but it is rewarding and I am happy to feel that I am being useful to customers. Besides, I am able to learn quickly the skills that I will need once I enter the workforce as an engineer. With the knowledge and skills I have gained through these experiences, I aim to become an engineer who will make society a better place.

SAITO Hiroto
Pre-doctoral Program 1 year / Izumi High School (Miyagi Prefecture)
I chose space as my research theme because I wanted to do something on a large scale if I am going to study computer science. At the University of Aizu, students can actually be involved in planetary exploration missions such as Hayabusa2, which I find very rewarding. I have been interested in IT since I was a high school student because my father had a job working with computers. I had narrowed down my choices to universities with information-related faculties, and after gathering information at open campuses, I felt that the University of Aizu offered the best environment for learning IT, so I decided to apply. The classes are tough, but I can feel my growth and confidence as I expand the range of things I can do with computers.

HOSHINO Yusui
3rd year undergraduate / Tsubame Secondary School (Niigata Prefecture)
I wanted to learn about computer-based expression, and was attracted to the University of Aizu, which has a single department in the Faculty of Informatics and a high world university ranking. I was attracted to the University of Aizu because it has a single-department faculty of informatics with a high ranking in the world. Currently, I am conducting research on the interaction between computers and people, such as AR, VR, and stereophonic sound. Since many of these can be experienced through the human sense of sight and hearing, even those without IT knowledge can create enjoyable content. I also have the opportunity to communicate with my supervisor, Dr. Cohen, and many international students, making this a very international laboratory. I would like to continue on to graduate school and do more in-depth research on the relationship between computers and people.
Create theNeural Network
NAKAMURA Yuriya
4th year undergraduate / Mizukaido Daiichi High School (Ibaraki Prefecture)
My reason for enrolling in the University of Aizu was my interest in AI (Artificial Intelligence), such as self-driving cars and Google Translate. The University of Aizu is the best environment to study AI because you can take classes specialized in computers. Another factor that led me to enroll in the University of Aizu is that it provides an environment conducive to learning English. Currently, I am conducting research in Dr. Jing's laboratory on the use of neural networks (mathematical models that imitate part of the neural circuits of the brain) to detect various abnormal movements of elderly people that may be life-threatening, such as falling over or pressing on the chest. And in the future, I would like to go on to graduate school and use the most advanced methods of neural networks to enable high-performance detection of abnormal behavior.

ENDO Masaki
Master's Program 2nd Year / Nihon University Tohoku High School (Fukushima Prefecture)
I have been interested in medicine since I was a child when I was diagnosed with a heart disease that took more than a decade to fully heal. After entering the University of Aizu, I learned that research on medical diagnosis using AI (Artificial Intelligence) was available, and I applied for my current laboratory. Currently, I am working on the development of an AI that can automatically detect malignant polyps from colon CT images. learning how to handle the special data of CT images, using AI and relying on literature to make up a path is very difficult but very rewarding. Through this research, I can also learn image recognition techniques that are highly versatile in society. My current goal is to build an AI model that can be used in actual diagnosis by the time I graduate.

I decided to apply to the University of Aizu because I discussed my desire to be involved in the development of information and communication technology with my high school teacher, who recommended it to me. Many of the classes are difficult, but as I learn more and more, I feel a great sense of accomplishment as I connect my research and solve problems with my peers. In addition, the professors are very kind and helpful, so I think it is an environment where it is easy to take on challenges, even difficult ones. In the future, I hope to challenge various things during these two years of graduate school and connect them to my personal growth.
Create theGame AI
YUDA Kaori
Master's Program 2nd Year / Nelson College for Girls (New Zealand)
I am doing research on making AI (artificial intelligence) driven game characters in fighting games more similar to human movements. There are various issues to be addressed, such as the difference between human movements and those of existing AI, and the relationship with emotions. It is a lot of steady work, but it is interesting because studying games is not only about developing something that entertains people, but also about providing visual proof of competent AI and discovering people's psychological tendencies. In addition, my advisor, Dr. Mozgovoy, encourages students to participate in international conferences and kindly provides guidance. International conferences are not only a chance to have your research results heard, but also an opportunity to interact with other students and researchers in the same field of study, and to make new discoveries and learn from them.
