At the University of Aizu, led by Professor Hiroshi Saito's lab, research and development on wild animal alert devices have been conducted with the goal of preventing damage caused by wild animals, including bears. Recently, Japan Shield Technical Research Co., Ltd. (*1), which has been collaborating on research for this technology, has commercialized the edge AI-integrated deterrent alarm "GROXA®-A" using the related patented technology held by our university and has officially started sales. Regarding the university's wild animal alert device, we have already conducted demonstration trials mainly in municipalities in the Aizu region with support from administrative agencies such as the Fukushima Prefecture Aizu Development Bureau and the Prefectural Nature Conservation Division. Also, through the JST RISTEX project (*6) adopted in FY2024, we are using this technology to work on wild animal damage prevention measures in collaboration with local residents and municipal officials.

 

With the commercialization and sales launch by Japan Shield Technical Research Co., Ltd., it is expected that, with the cooperation of private companies, the utilization of our university's technology will be promoted and contribute to regional development.
