The International Talk was held at the Global Lounge on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Undergraduate student Mr. Rafi Putra Riyadi gave a presentation on Indonesia.

Rafi's presentation provided an engaging overview of Indonesia, capturing the audience's attention with a blend of history, cultural diversity, and fascinating traditions. Graduate student Ms. GOZALY Angelita from Indonesia did a wonderful job as the MC for the event, guiding the audience through the presentation with enthusiasm, adding to the overall success of the session.The venue was filled with excitement as he delivered his content.

History and Politics
Rafi traced Indonesia's history, from the Majapahit Empire (1293-1527) to its independence in 1945, after 350 years of Dutch colonial rule. He explained the transition from Sukarno's "Old Order" to Suharto's "New Order," and the democratic reforms that followed in 1998.

Cultural Diversity
With over 600 ethnic groups and more than 700 languages, Indonesia's cultural richness was a key focus. Rafi introduced his own Sasak language from Lombok and discussed traditional elements like batik and gamelan.

Cultural Ties with Japan
An interesting fact about the cultural ties between Indonesia and Japan--particularly the Japanese version of Indonesia's national anthem--surprised the audience and deepened their understanding of the relationship between the two countries.

Traditions and Attractions
He showcased Indonesia's regional customs and landmarks, such as Bali's trance Tari dance. He also gave vivid descriptions of Yogyakarta's natural beauty, including the Kawah Putih lake and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Borobudur Temple.

Pink Beach and Komodo Dragons
The mention of Pink Beach on Komodo Island and the famous Komodo dragons captured the audience's imagination. Participants were intrigued by Indonesia's unique natural wonders.

Indonesian Cuisine
Rafi introduced popular dishes like Rendang, Nasi Goreng, and the spicy Ayam Taliwang from Lombok. As the presentation took place around lunchtime, high-resolution images of the dishes stirred the audience's appetite.

Indonesia's New Capital
Rafi also discussed the new eco-friendly capital being developed on Kalimantan Island. This project, aimed at decentralizing government functions, impressed the audience with Indonesia's innovative approach to urban planning.


Rafi wrapped up by highlighting Indonesia's cultural, natural, and historical heritage, leaving the audience inspired. During the Q&A session, there were numerous questions, and even after the Zoom session ended, participants continued engaging with Rafi in the Global Lounge. It was a fantastic presentation that left many participants eager to learn more about Indonesia.
