On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, the second workshop was held on the theme of "Akabeko". Ms. Minako Hayakawa, the representative director and designer of Nozawa Folk Crafts Association, was invited as a lecturer, and participants enjoyed the lecture and painting experience.
At the beginning of the workshop, while introducing the works produced by the Nozawa Folk Crafts Association, the lecturer explained the history of Akabeko, her thoughts on its production, and tips on how to paint Akabeko.
After the lecture, participants actually tried painting on Akabeko. Many of the participants were from outside of Fukushima Prefecture, and they had never touched Akabeko before. With the guidance of Mr. Hayakawa, the participants were able to try not only painting on Akabeko but also connecting the neck to the body, which cannot be experienced anywhere else. The participants truly enjoyed making one-of-the-kind Akabeko while experiencing the difficulty of making one.
The third workshop on Wednesday, November 27, which is about ""Aizu-nuri" (Aizu lacquerware)" has been full. The fourth workshop, with the theme of Aizu Cotton, will be held on Wednesday, December 11. For more details, please watch out for the poster. We are looking forward to seeing many participants.
