NGUYEN Van Tinh, (1st-year master's student) in PHAM & LE's laboratory (Computer Communications Laboratory) [1], received the Best Poster Award at the IEICE International Conference on Emerging Technologies for Communications (ICETC) 2023 held in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, from November 29 to December 1, 2023 [2].
Mr. NGUYEN has been participating in the Honors Program (4+1) at the University under the guidance of Associate Professor LE Doan Hoang [3] since October 2023.
The ICETC is the flagship international conference covering all the technical fields by IEICE Communications Society. This flagship conference features comprehensive technical sessions covering all the areas of communications and networking, including fascinating keynotes and invited talks from prominent researchers and from industry and government leaders. The Best Poster Awards are given to researchers from three research groups of NTT Access Network Service Systems Laboratories, the University of Aizu, and the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) [2].
The award-wining poster, entitled "Energy Efficiency Performance of Optical Satellite-based Adaptation Systems with Channel Prediction," addresses the issues of reliable Internet from Space. Notably, the study proposes a novel approach that incorporates the adaptive rate/power control with machine learning (ML)-based channel prediction for optical satellite networks. The obtained results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed solution for reliable and high-speed Internet of vehicles provided by optical satellite networks. The study is a part of the project funded by JSPS Kakenhi Grant number 23K19124 led by Associate Professor LE Doan Hoang.
Comments from NGUYEN Van Tinh: It is my great honor to receive the Best Poster Award at the ICETC 2023 after two years of studying at the University of Aizu. This award is beyond my expectations. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to my supervisors, Prof. Hoang D. Le and Prof. Anh T. Pham, for their kind support and constant encouragement. I could not have had this achievement without their dedicated and patient guidance. Besides, my sincere thanks also go to the University of Aizu for providing a good environment where I could focus on studying and doing research. I believe this great accomplishment will encourage and motivate me for my future career.
