A research article from the Integrated Computation-Communication PLatform (iCCL) cluster won the Best Paper Award at the 14th IEEE/IET International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks, and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP) 2024 in Rome, Italy , July 17-19, 2024 (1).

The IET/IEEE CSNDSP has been recognized as an international conference to present and exchange research findings and discuss future research topics in communication systems, communications networks, digital signal processing, and other related areas. This conference is one of the important forums dedicated to researchers/groups working on optical communication networks.

The award-winning paper, entitled " Blind Reconciliation with Protograph LDPC Code Extension for FSO-Based Satellite QKD Systems," addresses the design of blind key reconciliation (KR) for optical low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite quantum key distribution (QKD) systems, which eliminates the mismatch in the raw keys between two legitimate users. Notably, the paper introduces a novel blind KR scheme with a protograph low-density parity check (LDPC) code extension. The proposed LDPC structure is constructed by gradually extending and exhaustively searching among all possible solutions. The obtained results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed design compared to the state-of-the-art design in different turbulence channel conditions. The study is a part of the project funded by the University of Aizu under Grant P-6 to the Integrated Computation-Communication PLatform (iCCL) cluster led by Prof. Anh T. Pham.

The first author, Cuong Nguyen, received a BS degree from Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and a Master's degree from the University of Aizu (UoA). He is currently working toward a Ph.D. degree (D1) at the Computer Communications Lab (Pham & Le's Lab) (2) under the supervision of Professor Anh T. Pham and Associate Professor Hoang D. Le. His research focuses on LDPC design and quantum key distribution for optical satellite systems. Cuong Nguyen also won a travel grant at the IET/IEEE CSNDSP conference.

Comments from Cuong Nguyen: It is my honor to receive the Best Paper Award at the IEEE/IET CSNDSP 2024 conference on behalf of my team. This recognition from such a prestigious event is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire research group. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to Prof. PHAM Tuan Anh and Prof. LE Doan Hoang for their invaluable contributions and unwavering support. Moreover, I would also like to thank the University of Aizu for providing the travel grant, which enabled me to attend this conference and present our research.
