Over the course of two days from Saturday, October 11 to Sunday October 12, 2014, the University of Aizu Campus Festival "So-Sho Sai" (*1) was held. Although a typhoon had been approaching at the time of the event, the event was blessed with fair weather and was able to be held as scheduled.

This year's theme was "Explore Aizu on a pleasure cruise," which matched the fun that the event provided. This year's Autumn Open Campus (*2), where visitors can experience the UoA's research activities, was held as part of the event. Visitors were able to view a 1/5 scale model of "Hayabusa 2" (*3), which is scheduled to be launched soon, wheeled robots (*4), and other displays. Visitors were also able to experience motion capture technology (*5) and demonstrations of 3D printing and image processing technology.

Student clubs and other groups sold food and refreshments from concession stands. A wide variety of items were available, including light fare such as yakitori and bratwurst, fresh Aizu vegetables. Additionally, students from "Venture Startup Experience Factory 10" (*6) sold the Sakuraage (*7) and Vegimel burgers (*8) they had developed. The stage performances, a big hit with the crowd, included the unique performance of musical comedian Komatsu, as well as dances by costumed UoA students. Performances by the UoA Orchestra Dolce (*9) using an Aizu lacquer violin, and a joint concert by the UoA and Kyoto University of Foreign Studies wind ensembles (*10) filled the air with beautiful sounds; "autumn is for the arts," indeed.

Other fun events included a shouting contest, a bingo competition, "University of Aizu Secret Area Tours" into the areas below the UoA that even students can't access, a strike-out game by the Flying Disc Club, a flea market, a corner for games and illustrations by various student groups, etc.

At the festival's finale, the annual fireworks display lit up the autumn sky.
