For steadily studies and campus life of students, the UoA is implementing measures cooperate with class mentors, Graduation Thesis supervisors, Student Affairs Division, Counseling Office, Nurse's Office, Office for Learning Support, Office for Employment Support, etc. Details of the measures are described below.

Early Detection and Care of Students in Need of Learning Support

1. Objective

Inevitably, some students will underperform academically and/or fail to attend classes. This can happen due to any number of reasons, such an inability to adapt to the academic environment or student life at the UoA. We support such students by contacting them directly, conducting consultations, and taking other steps to monitor and mitigate the situation. Our primary objective in doing this is to work with students to find solutions that will help them recover their motivation to study, make a fresh start, and lead a fulfilling campus life.

2. Criteria

Students are evaluated against the following criteria twice per year (at the end of the first and second semester) to identify students in need of learning support. Students on a leave of absence are not subject to these criteria.

a. Quarter GPA of less than 2.0

  • Students are evaluated at the end of the first semester based on their second-quarter GPA. Students are evaluated at the end of the second semester based on their fourth-quarter GPA.
  • First and third quarter grades are not considered during either evaluation.

b. Failure to be promoted, start graduation thesis, or graduate after the following enrollment periods*:

*Excluding leaves of absence

(a) Promotion: 2 years
(b) Graduation Thesis: 3 years
(c) Graduation: 4 years

3. Support Measures

The Student Affairs Division will invite students in need of learning support to interviews and notify their guardians of academic performance. Consultations are typically conducted twice per year at the end of May and November, respectively.
Students can always consult with the Student Affairs Division, their class mentors, the Counseling Office, the Office for Learning Support, etc. regarding their studies.
Students are encouraged to reach out when they need help instead of struggling alone. (For further information, please refer to "Student Support.")
