When students will be absent from classes for reasons given in table 1 and 2 below, please submit a "Request for Excused Absence (Form 1)" with required documents to the Student Affairs Division in advance. If it is not possible, students can submit the documents to the Student Affairs Division after their absence. Class instructors may give absentees additional assignments, reports, etc. concerning class content provided on the date of their absences as necessary. Please contact instructors who are in charge of the courses directly.

If the reason for absence is 1-(1)-(f), prior approval by the committee is required. Students must report their absence by submission of a "Request for Excused Absence (Form 1)" no later than month before the date of the absence. The reasons approved in the past will be posted for your reference. Students who are scheduled to be absent due to a new reason not listed in this list, should consult with the Student Affairs Division in advance when they know the reason. And please submit a "Request for Excused Absence (Form 1)"as soon as possible even if it is the contents shown in this list (contents approved by the committee in the past). In cases a student fails to take examinations due to reasons given in table 1 and 2 below during a final examination period, the student can submit a "Request for Permission to Take a Makeup Examination" with required documents to the Student Affairs Division in addition to the Request for Excused Absence.
If students are absent for reasons listed in table 2, only those approved by the relevant course instructors will be eligible for a make-up exam.

1. Students'"absence"from classes for reasons on the list below shall be handles as "Not absent", in principle.

However, this shall be limited to once per quarter, in principle (in the event that an excused absence extends from one quarter to another, it shall be considered to have been in the quarter with the majority longest period of the absence). (g) In addition to (a) through (f) above, when there is a reason that makes it difficult for the student to commute to the University and special circumstances are recognized by the Dean of Students (Excluding reasons due to students' personal circumstances)*2 For such period as the Dean of Students deems necessary To be determined by the Dean of Students on a case-by-case basis

*1 "Other academic and/ or extracurricular activities" are such as hackathons and programing competitions. (However, participation as audience or spectators shall not be included.)

*2 "When there is a reason that makes it difficult for the student to commute to the University and special circumstances are recognized by the Dean of Students" refers to reasons that affect multiple students, such as a large-scale disaster. Cases due to the student's personal circumstances are not included.
