The University of Aizu SDGs Declaration (President's Message)

MIYAZAKI Toshiaki

In the 21st century, the environment surrounding the world has changed drastically. While global issues such as climate change, disparity, and infectious disease control have become apparent and serious, business and our lives have also seen remarkable progress in globalization. Also, in the field of information and communication technology (ICT), new technologies such as AI and IoT have been developed, and new societies that utilize them are being sought.

Under these circumstances, the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. In the SDGs, we tackle the economic, social, and environmental issues that surround us from an integrated perspective, with all people and organizations.

This goal is closely related to the founding philosophy of the University of Aizu.

The University of Aizu has been established in 1993 with the founding philosophy of "to Advance Knowledge for Humanity". In this sense, we have been conducting leading and most advanced research and education.

The" Humanity" in our founding philosophy aims for a sustainable society. The SDGs require us to strive to create a sustainable society by mobilizing all knowledge and power. The computer science that the University of Aizu continues to explore has great potential to realize it.

Based on our founding philosophy, we utilize our cutting-edge knowledge of computer science and engineering obtained through collaboration with Fukushima Prefecture, local communities, private companies, as well as our global research network. We promise to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
