On September 17, 2026, a demonstration project combining hydrogen and camping was conducted in Namie Town, Futaba District, Fukushima Prefecture, with the aim of expanding use cases for hydrogen utilization in the residential sector. Prof. YAGUCHI Yuichi of the University of Aizu contributed to the project by helping establish a LoRa communication environment and supporting the demonstration.

The demonstration was conducted by combining two hydrogen-related demonstration projects being carried out in Namie Town in FY2026.*

(1) Survey Project for the Development of a Facility Proposing a Hydrogen-Powered Lifestyle
(Commonly known as "SH2OWCASE")

(2) Project to Develop a Small-Scale, Distributed Hydrogen Utilization Model Using a Portable Hydrogen Power Generation System Utilizing Powdered Hydrogen

Hitachi, Ltd. (overall coordination of the demonstration)
OKUMA TECH Co., Ltd. (provision of the portable hydrogen power generation system and cooperation in the demonstration)
University of Aizu, a Public University Corporation (establishment of the LoRa communication environment and cooperation in the demonstration)

About Namie Town's Hydrogen Initiatives
Following the Great East Japan Earthquake and the nuclear accident, Namie Town has been promoting the "Namie Hydrogen Town Initiative," aiming to develop a community based on the local production and local consumption of energy without relying on nuclear power or fossil fuels. The town has been advancing innovative hydrogen utilization initiatives through collaboration among industry, academia, and government.
