On Tuesday September 8, 2015, the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the University of Aizu's newly-completed Laboratory for leading-edge ICT in Aizu (LICTiA) was held with some 80 people involved in the project in attendance.
At the ceremony, governor of Fukushima prefecture Masanori Uchibori and City of Aizuwakamatsu mayor Shohei Muroi gave congratulatory addresses before the ribbon cutting.
At the private tour held after the ceremony, administrative staff guided guests around LICTiA's various facilities, including the 1st floor exchange space, the 2nd floor training and conference space, the 3rd floor project rooms, and the data center space.
The facility will enter service on October 1 as the center of operations for the UoA Revitalization Center, which aims to contribute to the recovery from the 2011 East Japan earthquake and tsunami disaster. The University of Aizu will leverage the facility's various functions to, among other things, provide a place for the creation of innovation, promote advanced ICT research, and to develop ICT specialists.
