UoA student-led team wins SMARTPHONE APP JAM 2014 Grand Prize
A team led by UoA students won the Grand Prize in the hackathon category at the SMARTPHONE APP JAM 2014 (SPAJAM 2014) finals held from July 4-6 (Fri-Sun).
SMARTPHONE APP JAM 2014 (SPAJAM 2014) is an intensive app development competition sponsored by the Mobile Content Forum (MCF). The hackathon category saw 11 teams that survived their regional qualifiers competing in the finals.
The four-person Grand Prize winning team, "Team Mizuki," was comprised UoA students Taisei Igarashi (UG 2nd year), the team leader, and Nagisa Yonehara (UG 1st year), as well as TheDesignium Inc. CEO Satoshi Maeda and UoA Research Administrator Yasushi Fujii.
The team's award-winning work was their app "Pieces of Japan," which broadcasts sightseeing and disaster prevention information through beacon-equipped paper lanterns. The team won a trip to Silicon Valley, along with a special tour, for their work.
