It was announced by MEXT on September 26, 2014 that the University of Aizu was selected for the FY2014 Top Global University Project(*) as a Type B funding recipient. The program was created to fund the creation of centers for internationalization. (*)
Created by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT), the fund was proposed by the Education Rebuilding Council, a governmental advisory board. It aims to increase the international viability and competitiveness of Japanese universities.
It provides focused support on top-level universities with world-wide appeal (Type A: "Top University" Category) and universities that drive internationalization in Japanese society (Type B: "Globalization Driver" Category)
Having been selected, the University of Aizu will, as detailed below, create a multi-cultural campus based to foster Global ICT innovators through the combined effects Spirit, Technology, and Adaptability. Read more.
UoA faculty members and staff will work together in order to aim at becoming a model advanced university as a local public university specialized in the ICT field.

Creating ICT innovators who can and will succeed on the world stage through the three-part concept of Spirit, Technology, Adaptability.
* Spirit : The will to create through innovation
Technology: The ability to design, develop, and apply ICT
Adaptability: The ability to adapt to a multi-cultural environment.
<Primary Initiatives>
・Introduction of consistent curriculum that bridges the undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as a flexible term system
・Creation of a program in which all classes needed for graduation will be available in English, and establishment Japanese culture classes.
・Technical Innovation・Creation of a Foundation for Creation・Establishment of Overseas Training Courses
・Improvement of entire staff's English ability, and promotion of a thoroughly multi-cultural campus, etc. - Project Period
