The UoA team consisting of students and staff won an award at "Mashup Awards" (MA *1) held under collaboration of Open Data Promotion Consortium, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, etc.

"Mashup Awards (MA)" is a contest established in 2006 where web developers compete on their skills, designs and ideas through their own developed web sites, Smartphone applications, etc. Every year, the leading-edge developers propose approximately 500 works there, and which is an opportunity to share ideas for future web and internet.

The UoA team comprised of four members; the team leader Taisei IGARASHI, 2nd year undergraduate student, Nagisa YONEHARA, 1st year undergraduate student, CEO of TheDesignium Inc. (*2) Satoshi MAEDA, UoA graduate and UoA Research Administrator Yasushi FUJII, honored "Award of Prototype" in the Open Data Category which was newly established this year.

The award-winning work is an application named "Piece of Japan," which provides information on sightseeing and disaster prevention through beacon-equipped paper lanterns, and it won a Grand Prize in "SPAJAM" (*3) held in this July. The award ceremony was held at "Josui Kaikan", Tokyo on December 3, 2014.

Mr. Igarashi commented on his prospect: "Ideas based on "Piece of Japan" have got commercialization offers from companies. I will develop them further with a future vision of starting business."
