The second annual "Kogane Matsuri" (or "Amur Adonis Festival" was held in the Nakagoya community in Minamiaizu Town, on April 12, 2015 (Sunday). UoA student members of the "UoA Team to Find and Tell Fukushima's Appeal to the World" once again participated as part of the festival staff (*1).
The Nakagoya community is located in Yamaguchi, Minamiaizu Town and is famous for their fields of "Fukuju-so" (Far East Amur Adonis, Adonis amurensis). The community people cherish the flowers, calling them "Kogane" (meaning "gold"), as one of the charms of the community.
The day of the festival was blessed with fair weather. With snow still remaining on the nature trails, the golden Amur Adonis flowers were in full bloom. People of all ages participated in the festival, and the UoA students also enjoyed each of the events, which were packed with the appeal of the Nakagoya community.
Student representative Tatsuya Hanyu (3rd-year undergraduate) spoke of his gratitude, stating "Having been given the huge role of this year's MC, I was extremely nervous, so things didn't all proceed according to plan. I did my best to help make this festival, which we have built alongside the people of Nakagoya, a success. By interacting with the people of Nakagoya, I have built connections, and learned a lot about Aizu and Fukushima. I would like to continue to tell people about the appeal of Nakagoya."
The "UoA Team to Find and Tell Fukushima's Appeal to the World" is working to promote the "unknown appeal of the Nakagoya community" through unique local agriculture experiences, participation in various events, delicious food culture, and other experience-based activities. At last year's So-sho-sai campus festival, the team ran a well-received vending stand where they sold freshly-made mochi rice cake and local produce. The team also participates in various international exchange events.
