On Tuseday, October 21, 2014, the 317-student first-year class of Iwaki Senior High School (*1) visited the University of Aizu.

The purpose of the visit was to attend an "SSH General Studies Hour" lecture, part of Iwaki SHS's SSH (Super Science High School) (*2) program. The lecture aimed to develop student's global perspectives and their understanding of English and IT, which are the University of Aizu's specialty.

In the morning session, UoA Professor Vitaly Klyuev (*3) gave an English lecture titled "Computers that Changed Our Lives." With a tablet in hand, Professor Klyuev spoke about how computers have changed the way humanity lives as the students listened attentively.

In the afternoon, students separated into six classes and attended one lectures given by faculty members on computers, space, robotics, etc. This year's included a great deal of content on how to become someone capable of succeeding around the world. This included information on study abroad experiences, what this sort of person needs to learn, study abroad programs, and overseas internships, etc. The students seemed to be highly stimulated by the talks about unknown technologies, overseas experiences, and other subjects rarely touched upon by high school classes.
