A team of university students, "nep," including Ms. Misato MORINO (a UoA sophomore) won the @cosme prize for their work "Universe 10" at "Mirai-yochi (Future Prediction) Award 2014 ? a Hackathon for connecting all generations through IT" (*1) (held from Saturday, September 20 through Monday, September 22, 2014) which was organized by Yahoo! Japan.

At this hackathon, each team chose a theme working to "make my own future happier" or "make my family and loved ones happier after I'm gone" and developed application software.
The prize-winning work, "Universe 10," is an SNS (*2) limited to children under ten years old. Using "Universe 10," children can communicate, consult with each other and grow up in a virtual world that looks like space, free from interventions by adults. Users "graduate" when they reach the age of eleven and lose access to "Universe 10." Yet, graduates' data will remain there as an "Artificial Intelligence (*3)" that can contact new users.

Receiving the prize, Ms. MORINO said, "I feel that my own world has been expanded by taking part in this competition as I was able to hear the thoughts and ideas of many different people. At the same time, I realized that I had a lot to learn So I would like to improve my abilities, taking every possible opportunity to learn."
