On August 29, 2014, twenty-three students from the Republic of Ghana (*1) on their study excursion visited our university for a campus tour and international exchanges. The study excursion first started based on the relationship stemming from the fact that Dr. Hideyo Noguchi, who was a prominent Japanese bacteriologist born and raised in Inawashiro Town, devoted himself to research on yellow fever in Ghana.

Sitting in five groups including both UoA and Ghanaian students, they enjoyed talking with each other. After these pleasant talks, they had lunch together at the UoA cafeteria and deepened their exchanges. Many UoA international students joined this event and explained their countries' cultures and cuisines to other students. Using smartphones and tablet PCs, they mutually introduced their countries and had lively interactions. Ghanaian students said, "I wish to study at a Japanese university," "Life in Aizu looks enjoyable," and more. After lunch, they shook hands with each other and took photos. They seem to have a memorable time. This event was a precious opportunity for UoA students as well. (*2)

*1 The Republic of Ghana:
Ghana is located in West Africa and has a relationship with Aizu stemming from the fact that Dr. Hideyo Noguchi (1876-1928), who was a medical scientist born and raised in Inawashiro Town, died in Ghana while working on yellow fever research.
