The International Astronomical Union (IAU) and UoA co-hosted the "Asia-Pacific Regional IAU Meeting 2023 (APRIM 2023)," which was awarded the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO)'s 2024 "International Conference Attraction and Organization Contribution Award.
1.About the International Conference Attraction and Holding Award
- The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) annually selects and presents the "International Conference Attraction and Organization Contribution Award" (*1) to international conferences that have made outstanding efforts in attracting and holding international conferences.
- In FY2024, a total of nine international conferences were selected, four in the "International Conference Attraction" category and five in the "International Conference Hosting" category, with APRIM2023 (*2) receiving an award in the International Conference Hosting category.
【Reasons for the APRIM 2023 Award】
- High evaluation was given to the cooperation among the conference organizers, the convention bureau, and local companies.
- The use of local companies to set up and operate the venue has helped the local community accumulate expertise in holding international conferences.
- The efforts to collect donations for a portion of the travel expenses of young researchers from developing countries and the appeal to participants of the recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake were also highly evaluated.
