Professor Makiko Otake of the University of Aizu was awarded the Science and Technology Prize of the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for 2021(※1).
This award honors those who have made significant achievements in the field of science and technology and scientific literacy promotion, etc. The purpose of the award is to improve the motivation of people in the field of science and technology, and contribute to improving the level of Japan's science and technology.

※The award ceremony took place at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on Wednesday, April 14, 2021.

Contribution to international space exploration through analysis of KAGUYA and other exploration big data.

3Professor Otake's contributions

It has played a major role in the creation of highly accurate geological maps, which have made it possible to estimate underground materials important for resource exploration.
※Professor Otake was a member of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency Institute of Space and Astronautical Science until February 2020, and this award is based on his contributions at that time.
