Amazing experience at the YAMAICHI RICE ADVENTURE Harvest Festival 2024
Cindy Yoshita
2nd-Year Student
On October 14, 2024, I, Yoshita Cindy, an international student from Brazil, along with six other international university students, attended the Rice Harvest Festival in Bandai Machi.
First, I participated in a rice straw workshop where we made garlands from rice straw that are believed to bring good luck when hung on the front door. I had a lot of fun, but I struggled a bit because I'm not very strong. After that, I enjoyed a lunch of rice dishes like onigiri and mochi.
The event featured many stalls selling a variety of products, including accessories, rice, sweets, and more. After exploring the market, I climbed into a tractor on display at the event and got to see how it works up close. There was a raffle where participants could win rice, but unfortunately, I didn't win anything.
In Brazil, I eat Japanese rice since my family is of Japanese descent, but I've never tasted rice and mochi as delicious as what I had at this festival. Living in an urban area in Brazil, I've never had the opportunity to participate in events like this before. I really loved the experience.
I'm very grateful for the chance to participate in such an event and want to thank everyone who helped make it possible.
